Health Safety Environment Coordinator

The HSE Coordinator will provide support/guidance to the various Ontario divisions of Envirosystems Inc (Hotz Environmental Services, Hydrovac Industrial & Marine Services, Quadra Industrial Services, HD Industrial Services, and Dynamic Industrial Services). The position will be based out of Hamilton where successful applicant will allocate approximately 70% of their time at the Hotz Environmental Services  facility, and the remaining time split amongst the other divisions and various customer locations throughout southern Ontario. Potential for periodic travel to Alberta job sites (project based).

The Coordinator will have a direct report to Envirosystems HSE Director and indirect reports to senior management within each Ontario division. A primary focus for the HSE Coordinator will be injury prevention strategies and reducing WSIB premiums.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Promote the Internal Responsibility System (IRS);
- Monitor HSE performance (leading and lagging indicators) against
internal standards;
- Provide employee training courses (WHMIS, TDG, forklift, etc.),
coordinate other training courses as needed and maintain employee training records.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable federal/provincial/municipal HSE
legislation;
- Promote continuous improvement through development, implementation and administration of corporate HSE policies, programs, practices and procedures;
- Lead by demonstrating required behaviours and attitudes to establish a strong culture;
- Assist operations with safe job plans, job safety analysis, hazard assessments, etc;
- Assist operations with scheduling and documenting weekly toolbox/safety meetings.
- Conduct work observations, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, etc., and identify corrective actions where needed;
- Assist Supervisors with incident investigations to ensure that root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented;
- Identify external reporting requirements (i.e. permits, incident notification, WCB reporting, etc.) and prepare the necessary letters/reports for management signature.
- Support management with timely workers’ compensation claims management and a Return-to-Work ASAP approach;
- Act as a liaison with HSE regulators and inspectors (i.e. Labour, Workers’ Compensation, Environment, Transport, etc.) and customer HSE representatives;
- Maintain knowledge of current HSE strategies, trends and technologies through networking and participating in external
associations, committees, etc.;
- Attend monthly joint health and safety committee meetings as an advisor;
- Assist Operations with Orientations (HSE portion) for new employees; and
- Maintain HSE records, files, database, etc.

Qualifications:

- Post secondary education, preferably in a health, safety or environment discipline;
- Professional designation (CSO, etc) is desirable;
- Member of professional associations (i.e. CSSE, IAPA, etc) is desirable;
- 3 to 5 years experience in a similar health and safety position in an industrial setting;
- WSIB claims management experience;
- Detailed, analytical problem solver;
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and listening skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to motivate others;
- Self starter with minimal supervision; and
- Highly developed time management skills.
