The Lennox Island Daycare is a community based and run daycare that has been in operation since 1998. The facility is available to families with children aged 18 months – 12 years of age. The downstairs of the daycare is operated by the Aboriginal Headstart on Reserve Program. The daycare philosophy is based on the importance of play and play based learning. This is a term position running from August/2010 through to June/2011; with the possibility a permanent extension. The Lennox Island Daycare requires a full time Headstart Teacher who will also act as daycare staff during specific hours of the day.

1. Educator/Headstart Teacher

Responsibilities:
.    Develop meaningful programming around the Aboriginal Headstart     Program.
.    Attend meetings with funders and programs leaders.
.    Prepare daily lesson plans.
.    Prepare creative activities for children to complete each day.
.    Prepare outdoor games and activities for children.
.    Provide a comfortable, nurturing environment for children attending the program.
.    Monitor and observe the development, and developmental needs of the children in their care.
.    Responsible for meeting with other education professionals and parents of the children.
.    Aid in menu planning with emphasis on nutrition.
.    Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well maintained and safe at all time.
.    Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities.
.    Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities.
.    Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts.
.    Be familiar with emergency procedures.
Qualifications:
.    Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
.    Well developed interpersonal skills including oral and written communication.
.    Valid driver’s license.
.    Strong knowledge and awareness of :
- Age appropriate programming and developmental needs of children.
- Family and parenting issues and needs.
- Broader childcare field and its role in the community.
