1. Education Manager

Basic Function: Reporting to the Executive Director of Conservation, Education and Research, the Manager of Education is responsible for developing and co-ordinating a strong and creative education program which upholds and reinforces the Zoo Vision and strategic initiates.

Responsibilities
·Directs and manages the work of the Education Branch, including Volunteer Services, public and school programs.
·Effectively manages and directs the education, volunteer and program functions developing objectives for this area while ensuring efficient utilization of the human and financial resources to achieve established performance targets.
·Oversees the interviewing, selection, development, evaluation and control of all assigned staff.
·Facilitates the co-ordination of all Zoo programs of an educational nature.
·Shares expertise and resources with the education departments of other Zoos and organizations with a conservation/education mandate.
·Prepares and administers an annual budget for the Branch.
·Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Toronto Zoo Safety Policy; ensuring all employees work in a safe manner, with the appropriate protective equipment, and that all accidents hazards in his/her area of responsibility are promptly investigated and corrective action taken.
·Develops and oversees the updating and maintenance of interpretive and experiential exhibits and creates and approves interpretive graphics.
·Prepares funding applications and actively searches for external funding.
·Assists guests on-site as required and ensures excellent customer service is provided by Zoo staff.
·Performs other related duties as requested by the Executive Director.

Qualifications
·University degree in Education, combined with equivalent experience within the education field.
·Must posses 5 years of supervisory experience; experience with a volunteer based organization preferred.
·Must possess superior oral, and written communication skills.
·Demonstrated skill in supervision and administration of people and programs.
·Excellent planning skills.
·Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to speak confidently in public.
·Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of interpretive graphics.
·Must possess working knowledge of applicable safety legislation.
