Reporting to the Superintendent – Application Portfolios, you are responsible for providing programming support to the I.T. Services Department. This involves designing, building, implementing, and supporting applications. You assist users with the resolution of application-related problems and provide support in the development and implementation of automated information systems. These duties include establishing requirements through analysis of relevant systems and consultation with users, and preparing detailed flow chart diagrams and program specifications. Other duties include coding, compiling, testing, installing and debugging of programs. First line technical support and assistance to users with respect to the resolution of computer related problems is provided. The Change and Configuration Management processes are to be understood and followed. Compliance with Commission policies pertaining to security and Electronic Data Processing (EDP) audit procedures and controls is expected. Duties also include liaising with external vendors regarding software engagements and troubleshooting issues. Generally, you provide ongoing support to end users and other technical areas, and perform related duties as assigned. Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. Annual Salary Range: $57,202.60 – $71,471.40 (Level 7).
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require sound knowledge of a relevant discipline such as Computer Science and are familiar with relevant programming languages and data processing techniques. You must have a good knowledge of application development and maintenance projects/methodologies and structured techniques for systems analysis, design and programming in both a UNIX (AIX) and Microsoft environment. You must possess sound judgment, effective verbal and written communication skills, and strong analytical and problem solving skills. You must also possess the abilities to plan and conduct feasibility studies, design applications and databases, test applications, and prepare specifications and documentation. Knowledge and experience with UNIX, Oracle, C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Microsoft.NET and Microsoft Visual Studio with an emphasis on C++ and C# preferred. These abilities would normally be acquired by obtaining a university degree/college diploma in Computer Science, or the equivalent, combined with one to three years directly related experience working in a Programmer or Programmer Trainee capacity. The successful candidate may also be required to be part of a 24hr based on call rotation. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
