Electrician Vacancy in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut at Nasittuq Corporation

Nasittuq provides exemplary technical services in the operation and maintenance of Canada's North Warning System (NWS) Project. Our highly skilled workforce provides engineering and project management expertise to our customer, the Department of National Defence (DND).

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - ELECTRICIAN

6 x 6 Week Rotational Position
Location:  Cambridge Bay, Nunavut

The Facilities Maintenance Technician - Electrician (FMT-E) will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting the serviceability of the facilities and the electrical distribution systems (along with the related equipment) at the NWS Short Range Radar (SRR) and Long Range Radar (LRR) sites within the respective zone.  This includes providing diagnostic, problem solving and repair capabilities.  Also, the FMT-E will be responsible for ensuring that associated administrative requirements are completed according to standard operating procedures, including:  documenting and maintaining facilities' files as related to the work management system, operational field reports, data analysis, etc.

This is a 6x6 Rotational position (6 weeks on-site and 6 weeks on leave) working 5 days per week.  Work is normally carried out in remote Arctic locations with exposure to severe outdoor winter weather conditions; and, this position requires frequent travel by helicopter to/from remote radar sites.

Qualifications:

Licensed journeyman and post journeyman experience as an Industrial Electrician
Minimum 2 years' proven experience in an industrial environment
Must be familiar with programmable logic controllers, diesel generators, switchgear and distribution systems, and safety regulations and practices
Solid communication and computer skills (MS Word and Excel)
Knowledge or experience with Fire Detection and Fire Suppression systems is considered an asset
Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of the position, previous industrial mechanical maintenance experience preferably in power plant operation also considered an asset
Ability to integrate successfully into a small, multi-cultural and team-oriented department
Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse conditions in isolated Arctic locations

This position is covered under the provision of the collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Local 1541. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, be eligible for SECRET Security Clearance, possess a valid driver's license and pass a pre-employment medical.
